Welcome back to the One Room Challenge, Week 3! Thank you, Linda, for making this all possible! It really is an honor to participate and we feel so lucky that we get to work with so many amazing people, on the brand side and on the designer/organization side!!
SO…this week (and really the last 3 weeks) has been very exciting because we have been picking out THE ACTUAL THINGS that are going to live in Kit’s room! Want to see some of what we’ve picked!?
We are so in love!!! Our house was built in 1859, as you know, so we always want to keep as much originality to it as we can while embracing modernism! Also, it is probably helpful to note that Kit is, like, the most adult 3 year old I’ve ever met who doesn’t really like toys that much and genuinely likes antiques like our Victrola etc. It’s weird….she has weird parents…..it’s fine. SO, her room is definitely not going to be your average little girl room.
Let’s go through it!
Moldings: We are so lucky to have Metrie on board again this time around, they are definitely our go-to source for moldings on our other houses, so to get to have them in our own house is amazing!! We have chosen their French Curves III line, and I highly recommend. We will have more details next week on the install! We are planning on a low wainscotting, some AMAZING crown and our favorite: Picture hanging rail…a must have in an old house.
For now, the idea is to paint it pink, although we are definitely toying with other colors:
Like this dark blue and the following….a lighter blue:
It really boils down to which goes best with the EPIC WALLPAPER. We are definitely going bold in here!!
Wallpaper: We are SO excited to be working with Fabricut again, everything they make is such high quality and so very beautiful. They have a couple of new lines out right now with their TREND brand and we could not stop thinking about this Vern Yip paper! We just kept coming back to it….that’s how you know you love something. Andy actually has a very similar dragon tattoo that kit LOVES (it was the first documented british royalty tattoo in history on the Duke of York in the 1800’s…told you….NERDS) so this will be a really fun pattern for us! We are pairing it with a coordinating velvet from their Jaclyn Smith line to make the bed canopy and the draperies. SO, SO HAPPY.
Wallpaper Continued: For the ensuite, we have found the most perfect paper of all time…it connects all of our upstairs rooms in the best way possible! We chose the pattern 5 Monkeys by Milton and King in the terra cotta color and it is just beautiful! It feels whimsical, antique and modern all at the same time and we absolutely love it. We can’t wait to get it in our hands and on the wall! Milton and King have a great selection of unique papers…highly recommend.
Lighting: This round there are 7 incredible lighting sponsors: Couture Lamps, Craftmade, Crystorama, Lamps Plus, Hudson Valley Lighting, Kichler and Varaluz. If you saw my pinterest right now you would think that I have a real lighting addiction. To be honest, I’m still narrowing down everything but we actually have a lot of lighting needs in the space!
- Bedroom Light
- The Hallway
- The Ensuite
- A Lamp (which we’ve already ordered, yay!)
I’ll be happy to report to you next week when we’ve made all the final decisions and share which ones we also loved but didn’t get! Lights really are one of my favorite things in a room…even if you just have white walls and nothing else, the right light can make all the difference. As a side note: don’t let your friends ever use bulbs that are “bluer” than 2700K minimum. I will say that to you all at least 6 more times throughout the event, haha!
Rugs: We have 2 great rug sponsors this round: rugs.com and Couristan! Sometimes when I’m designing I will start with the rug and work my way up, because there are so many pieces of inspiration you can gather from a rug!
I have pinned no less than 120 rugs in the last three weeks, but have finally come to some decisions: For the ensuite rug, we have chosen the Lima, Andes rug because we love that it still feels a little antique and full of character, even though it is new! We really adore their newest collection, they do a great job at combining quality and style.
We’ve also chosen our antique rug from rugs.com! We were blown away by their selection of antiques at super affordable prices!! Our favorite way to search on their site is to type in the word “persian” in the search bar and then scroll down on the left and select the age. The best bargains are in the 25-40 year old section. You will not be dissapointed! Here’s a quick link to that search.
The Bed: Wow…the bed we found on Hayneedle is seriously SO BEAUTIFUL. We wanted something that looked a little antique, a little french and that was modern enough to feel new. We love the back and sides because we think it will help Kit feel less nervous as she transitions to her “big girl bed” (her one request for her room.) Hayneedle is full of beautiful things, including daybeds that came in at close seconds! Their website is easy to navigate and we are very impressed with their selection. We will tell you more about it when the bed comes, including the mattress we chose from them!
We will be sharing more next week about our next round of picks from our incredible sponsors including:
- Arianna Belle and SWD Studio for the most beautiful pillows
- Article for furniture
- Emtek and Schuab for hardware
- Homepop for furniture
- Jill Rosenwald for pottery
- Minted for Art
- Overstock for accesories
- Select Blinds for roller shades
- Shay Geyer for botanicals
- Spoonflower (I have something very special planned :)
Okay, I will see you next week and share our built-in closet and bed canopy progress and then on to moldings! YAY!!
Now go say hi to our friends!!
