Hello friends! Welcome to week 4 of the Fall One Room Challenge! This week has been a big one, although I must say that it doesn’t look like much has changed…We’ve been working on getting the kitchen details together so that when we paint everything the color we finally land on, it will all look custom. At least I hope :)
We have that awesome bank of original cabinets but we needed our little Ikea cabinets to look somewhat less ridiculous next to it.
This is real life, by the way. LITERALLY dishes in the sink that I didn’t realize until it was too late. Here’s the issue-underneath many, many layers of paint there is original wood. I am SO tempted to strip it down but I just wonder if I would really have the time to do it before the challenge is over… (by the way, did you hear that the challenge has been extended? It has just been a crazy time for everyone considering all of the insane weather, etc.)
So here is what we are dealing with when we first start the IKEA cabinets. No personality, totally square:
Then we start to add the little details like cabinet feet:
These are super simple and add a lot of character to the cabinets. Next up-crown molding and panels on the doors!
The crown really makes the most amount of difference, I think. Our ceilings are TOTALLY not level, so we put a base molding up first that is pretty level and then we let the crown do what it want to :)
And finally we add the hardware:
Both of these are from House of Antique Hardware. We love these guys. (Not sponsored, just the truth :) These are our go-to pieces when doing a kitchen that we want to look old.
Now that we have the basics on the cabinets I really NEED to figure out what the heck we are doing in here. I keep bouncing back and forth. We just finished a kitchen for our Facebook show, Win This House! (we are giving away a house and you should totally watch.) We painted the cabinets the charcoal color that I was telling you about the first week. I am seriously in LOVE. But now I feel like I can’t do another charcoal kitchen because I have social media fear that people will think I only do the same kind of kitchen….BUT THIS KITCHEN THO.
You can see the struggle I am having. I REALLY want my kitchen to look like this and I think the living room trim and fireplace mantle would look so KILLER in this color. I promise I will make a decision this week…and even paint it.
Again, a special thanks to Linda at Calling it Home for having us and a big thanks to the sponsors of the event! Don’t forget to check out the other incredible rooms coming along!!!
