One Room Challenge: Week 6!
MAY 10 BY CANDIS MEREDITH 48 COMMENTS
Hi guys!
Today is the big reveal of our master suite for the One Room Challenge! It definitely got down to the wire–we were chasing that light yesterday to grab photos! Haha! Some small things didn’t happen exactly how I wanted, but all and all, I’d call our challenge a big success!! (MOSTLY because we have now officially made someplace nice for ourselves, but also because we love it and think it’s beautiful.)
Be warned, I’m no professional photographer, but I did my best. Also, I haven’t slept yet, so expect typos…
Catch up here if you haven’t seen our progress, but to sum it up: We have restored/renovated our 1859 home from being condemned to very-much-loved…so much so, we call it Love House. The room we chose was our master suite (sleeping area and sitting room/office) because we restore a lot of homes, our day/allthetime job, and we rarely get to work on our own things.
Before we get started, we just want to sincerely thank Linda of Calling it Home for all of her hard work in making this event possible, all of the sponsors who were so generous and wonderful to work with and our media partner House Beautiful (faithful subscriber for all time 🙂 We are very, very grateful that we were included in this opportunity!
SHALL WE!?

SHALL WE!?
I’m not going to post the before BEFORE pictures again, because they are gross and you are here for pretty. Basically Love House was negleted for a long time and we had a big job just getting it livable.
When we left you last week we were just getting ready to paint. The floors had been finished and we are so, so happy with them. We also finished the crown and built-in closets (including and IKEA Pax that we added panels and crown molding to to look extra fancy.) Honestly we did the majority of the work this week because, LOOK, it’s done!
We will start in the sleeping room!
We started by picking fabric from Fabricut. It is the most luxurious stuff I have ever worked with. We used the same pattern throughout the suite: Cappadocia in Mossy Stone and it really ties the whole room together. The most difficult part about the whole thing was narrowing it down! We loved so many of their fabrics. In fact, we are going to be writing a series with them here on some of the rooms that “might have been” had we chosen different fabrics! Sooo excited.
We also used the wallpaper from Fabricut Idyll in Gold on the ceilings. I cannot believe the subtle but profound change that paper made in the room. We love the unexpected detail, but it’s not overwhelming. See more of it below 🙂
We hung this beautiful hall mirror from Eurotreasures and it made a huge difference in the room! It brought that sense of history back into the space. My favorite part is that it looks like it could have always been here.
The stripped duvet cover and perfect comforter are from All Modern and make me feel like we are regular people with put-together beds. It’s weird to describe how nice it is to have a finished adult space! The lovely blanket at the bottom of the bed that is so soft, has great texture and tempts me to take a nap in asap is from The Mine.
The bed is from All Modern and is very understated in the best way! (Also suuuper affordable.)
We were so lucky to have our talented friend Amber (of Amber Reverie) work with us on the flowers for the room. I wish they could last forever–they are SO beautiful!! Amber is such a kind and dependable person. PLUS she makes art with her flowers and I really admire that! We highly recommend her for anything floral/design related.
I made that bolero and I’m very proud 🙂
We had fun “building in” our IKEA closet, too. Once we painted everything green (Camo Green from Valspar) it really looked nice!!
There were only a couple of items that didn’t quite make it in time. One of them is a large beautiful piece from Framebridge, so we will post about it as soon as it arrives! (We had SO much fun ordering from them and we did receive a smaller piece that I’ll show you below. For now we placed our antique embroidery there to look good for you 😉
We also hear that one of our most-anticipated items will be here Friday!! The Hudson Valley sconce from the lovely people of Bellacor is sooooo good looking, I can’t wait to hold them in my hands and write about them for you!
NOW, let’s visit our sitting room and office!
We wanted something super bold in here! We chose Florentine Clay from Valspar for our office. It is a very warm, peachy pink that makes everything look happy.
We were very lucky to get to work with Metrie for this project. We have used their products for a long time and are always so impressed! We used their crown molding, picture hanging rail, chair rail on the ceiling and fabulous doors. We can’t say enough about the quality of product and quality of people there!
Love this image so much…it really shows off the beautiful draperies and moldings. You can also see the adorable framed piece from Framebridge of our inspiration photo! The Mandalay frame fit perfectly with our theme and the construction of it was super nice. We will definitely be sending them more to frame!
The corner chair is from All Modern as well as the beautiful pillow. It was very important to us that there were plenty of places for people to sit in here and visit with us!
This light. Wow. We really needed something that could break us out of our granny mode and this was it.
It’s from The Mine and is made by Feiss. It was so easy to put together (which really matters to me) and makes such a huge impact on the room! I love how unique it is and how the gold and fluted glass look with the ceiling paper and wall color.
This image shows how the two rooms relate to one another, I have to admit that I was scared out of my mind that I was being too crazy with color (and two very DIFFERENT colors, at that) but once all of the furniture and antique rugs were in, the colors became this wonderful canvas to showcase everything and really worked for us.
This coffee table is such a statement piece! It has gold foil squares and is just modern enough to elevate the room! The storage benches are being used on either side for seating (and for me to store my laptop in because I loose it every day. For real.)
How beautiful is this arrangement by Amber?!
All the heart eyes.
We desperately needed a place for Andy and me to work (that wasn’t our living room couch) so we had been on a search for the perfect desks for a long time. We found them at our very favorite antique store, Eurotreasures, in Salt Lake. My favorite thing about the desks besides the 100 year old patina is the fact that one is slightly more feminine and one is slightly more masculine. I think they have so much personality! If you are ever visiting Utah (or live here) you HAVE to go visit Scott. Your mind will be blown and you will never be the same!
This wall isn’t really quite finished (I have several more little frames and the ovals are going to have artwork in them that I couldn’t get ready in time) but the best thing is that it is SO easy to change around because of our picture hanging rail!!!
The floors are the stuff of our dreams! We are so happy we restored them, with all their imperfections!
Okay! What do you think?! There’s always so much more to do and things I could improve but I am so happy we have this special place in our home! 6Now I need to go to sleep! It’s 6:00 AM and I am a crazy person from this all-nighter!
We hoped you enjoyed our room reveal, we want to thank all of you for following along, it really means A LOT to us!
A special thanks again, for our sponsors Metrie, Fabricut, All Modern, The Mine, Eurotreasures, Framebridge and Bellacor for helping us make this space beautiful.
Okay guys, I am SOOOOO excited to see everyone else’s room! Best. Day. Ever!
